RLSS Open Water Lifeguarding courses
The OWL qualification can be used to supervise and provide rescue cover for planned, organised and risk assessed activities in still, non-tidal water for 2 years. Applicants do not require any previous qualifications but do need to be aged 16 or over.
This course is perfect for people with a passion for open water swimming who are looking to further your skills and/ or support your local club with safety cover and is for candidates who do not already hold any other life guarding qualification such as an NPLQ. PLEASE NOTE…..
This course is a 3 1/2 day course
The theory element will be 2 days delivered via zoom.
The practical session will be 1 day + 1/2 day assessment held at Londons Royal Docks, E16 1AH
Pre Requisites Must be 16 years of age at the date of assessment and be able to meet the following criteria:
Be competent and confident in open water
Be able to submerge under the water confidently
Before the course, candidates must be able to swim at least 400 metres in a pool/ open water swimming continuously on their front and showing urgency
Must complete minimum guided learning hours
Successfully complete the course assessment

1-day Recognition of Prior Learning Open Water Lifeguard Qualification – Coming Soon
This course is aimed at people who already hold the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification and require bolt on learning in order to qualify for Open Water Safety roles. Venues: Cost: £100 Prerequisite: This course is suitable for people who already hold an NPLQ. They must be aged 16 and over and show a copy of their previous NPLQ qualification to the trainer on the day.
