From Swim Coach to Leader: Adam’s Journey Powers New Coaching Partnership Between NOWCA and Comfort Academy
We’re excited to announce our new partnership with Comfort Academy to deliver the STA Level 2 Open Water Coaching qualification – led by someone whose open water journey truly embodies the spirit of our community: Adam Comfort.
Adam’s connection to NOWCA began on the front lines – working as a swim coach at Thorpe Lake. With over 27 years of experience in the swim industry, Adam has grown from grassroots instructor to head coach, national swim programme leader, and now, a professional training partner empowering the next generation of open water coaches.
Swimming has always been second nature to Adam. From his early days as a competitive swimmer to coaching school champions and mentoring triathletes, his passion for developing talent has never waned. As one of the first in the UK to gain the STA Level 2 Open Water Coaching qualification, Adam seamlessly blends technical expertise with firsthand experience – having raced in events across the UK, including Ironman Copenhagen.
In 2018, Adam was appointed NOWCA Head Coach, where his dynamic style and deep understanding of swimmer psychology earned outstanding feedback from athletes of all levels. It was a natural evolution for Adam to step into course delivery and tutor the STA Level 2 Open Water Coaching qualification.
Now, through Comfort Academy, Adam and his team are delivering these internationally recognised qualifications in partnership with NOWCA and Love Open Water. This collaboration allows us to continue our mission – more water, more people, more safely – by ensuring our coaches are as knowledgeable, passionate, and experienced as the swimmers they serve.
